Teacher’s Deserve So Much More…..

I recently stumbled across one amazing giveaway. It is the How Can You Make a Teacher’s Day Better? and I of course have to enter for my wonderful mother in law! Who just so happens to be a teacher.

Thanks to Office Max they have a wonderful site called A Day Made Better where they are erasing teacher-funded classrooms. “A Day Made Better” is a national event founded by OfficeMax in partnership with the non-profit organization, Adopt-A-Classroom, to support teachers at schools across the country and put an end to teacher-funded classrooms.

This I can completely attest to as my mother in law alone in less then a month has spent close to 800 dollars on items she needed for her classroom.

Here is Sam (& Sarah) with Mrs. Acuna this year and last year.

Mrs. Acuna is a Kindergarten teacher at lake Arrowhead Elementary where she has been teaching for the past 20 plus years. She is always finding new ways to teach her students and a lot of the fun interactive ideas she gets is all surrounding outside purchases. From homework bags, to the TONS of glue bottles and glue sticks to interactive learning toys and computer games. Don’t forget she loves to cook with her class and that requires her to go out and purchase cooking supplies.

She hates asking for parent donations but at the same time teachers shouldn’t have to spend a nice penny to make the school year great for their students.

She wants her kids to enjoy school and have fun while learning. Schools don’t offer these fun interactive learning books, papers or toys and it is up to teachers to purchase them.

So I am nominating Mrs. Acuna for this award. She loves her job and loves teaching. I am astonished at what she does. She takes these kids who just earned their ABC’s and teach them to read and write. It amazes me everyday at how these kids adore her and are so eager for school. She is a wonderful teacher and deserves this award hands down.

  1. I have no problem helping out our teachers with school supplies. They are so expensive and with cutbacks the teachers would not be able to offer art supplies or fun items like stickers. We have a “room mom” who sends out an email with a list of items the teacher has requested. I get the kids involved and they help pick out items from the list and help deliver them.
