Medela Home Party – August 2011

Medela’s primary focus is breastfeeding…by helping moms to successfully breastfeed their babies and to do so for as long as they choose. Meeting this goal responsibly is at the heart of everything we do.

“We pledge our dedication to breastfeeding as the best nutrition for babies and families. We further pledge that our breastfeeding accessory products and literature shall never be used to influence mothers to switch from breastfeeding to infant formula feeding. Nor shall our breastfeeding accessory products and literature be used in any way to promote artificial baby milk.”

– Olle Larsson, Founder of Medela

Our Medela party was a blast and had a lot of fun talking and chatting about Breastfeeding and the best products to use!

Below are some of the products that we discussed in the Home Party along with the products that each participant will be receiving in their Goodie Bag.

Medela Pump In Style Advanced Shoulder Bag Breast Pump

Pump In Style Advanced is a daily use breastpump designed for moms who pump several times a day. All Pump In Style Advanced breastpumps offer portable convenience for quiet, discreet pumping anywhere.

What is 2-Phase Expression technology?
Through research, Medela learned that there are two distinct phases of how babies breastfeed. The Stimulation Phase is fast and light sucking to start milk flowing followed by the Expression Phase, slow and stronger sucking to deliver more milk faster. Pump In Style Advanced breastpumps have exclusive 2-Phase Expression technology that mimics a baby’s natural nursing pattern.

Notice to current Pump In Style Advanced Users: To avoid damaging transformer (A/C adapter) and cord, do NOT wrap cord around transformer when storing it and do not unplug cord from wall by pulling on cord.

  1. I don’t know how to join the chat Amanda, but would just like to say I have been looking at the Medela pumps with my daughter. She is very young (18) but wants to breastfeed and has been told these are THE best pumps out there. We looked into our health insurance and they will only cover $30 towards a pump. I was appalled and actually commented on the Medela facebook page how I find it quite alarming and ridiculous that insurance companies will shell out drugs by the buckets and do expensive testing, but wont supply mothers a good pump to help them continue feeding their child (as they work or go to school or even just pump to keep the “white gold” coming) Really? For a mother to nurse and supply such great health benefits that can last for years or who knows…a lifetime? I cant believe insurance or the “higher ups” in health politics would not mandate this coverage. Der. our country is SO backwards!

  2. Eileen, I actually didn’t know insurances would help with pumps. I think this is something that they should help moms who want to nurse with. Especially those who need to go back to work and have to pump for their babies.

yes I have always heard these were the pumps to get. I have friends who used them and swear by them.

I understand your frustrations about how the insurance should help cover more, and I hope your able to get the pump for your daughter.

  3. Eileen – I have really great insurance coverage, and they won’t cover the cost of a pump at all unless it is medically required (i.e. baby is in the nicu). I do know of someone who was able to buy a used Medela pump and buy replacement pieces for all the parts that the milk touches. Maybe you could do something like that if you’re comfortable? She was able to buy a whole set for $50!
