Walmart’s Thanksgiving Meal for Eight – $20 *Giveaway*
November 20, 2009 by Amanda
Filed under Giveaways, Holiday 2009, Holiday Giveaway

This November, Walmart wants to make sure all Americans have the opportunity to create lasting memories with their families by offering a Thanksgiving Meal for Eight for as low as $20, featuring all of the fixings for an unforgettable Thanksgiving meal.

The meal includes one 12-pound Grade-A turkey, three cans of vegetables, three boxes of stuffing mix, one 5-pound bag of red potatoes, two cans of cranberry sauce, one package of dinner rolls, and a pumpkin roll cake for dessert.
And for those less confident in the kitchen, Food Network star Melissa d’Arabian has created tasty twists on traditional holiday dishes using the ingredients found in the Thanksgiving basket.
I think that this is a fabulous promotion Walmart is doing. So many families (including mine) find it hard to spend a fortune on food for meals yet we still want to have a wonderful and memorable Holiday Season. I can not wait to head to Walmart and pick up my Thanksgiving Basket!
Savings doesn’t have to stop at food. You can save money on other things too, like Holiday Gifts. Like most families we are trying to figure out how to give the kids a fabulous holiday and not spend a fortune! One of the biggest money savers is having kids make their own gifts for family, friends and even their teacher(s).
One idea is making the adorable No-Sew Sachets from FamilyFun. These make great gifts for Grandma, Mom, even your female Teacher. They cna use these cute handmade sachets for their undie drawer, setting out on a table, bathroom. Well anywhere they want to really. We are making these for Sam’s teacher and for Grandma.
“I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Walmart. In addition, I received a Walmart gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate and two to offer as a giveaway.”

TWO winners will each receive a $30 dollar Gift Card to Walmart.

Making a shopping plan is the most successful way of saving money this
Christmas. Careful thinking about who gets what BEFORE I go to the store is proving that I can save money this year.
I’m making homemade cookies to give as gifts to neighbors and friends instead of buying prepackaged gifts.
We are going to try to limit our Christmas present shopping this year.
This year, to save money, we are making 90% of our ornaments! Not only will they be shatterproof, they are something the whole family can do!

I’ve made some of the kids’ Christmas gift. I made pillowcase dresses for my daughters which cost $1.50 to make and are so cute. Also made each one a cape for cheap too. Also actually found a couple of their gifts at garage sales.

To save money this holiday season I only buy what I need that is on sale, using coupons.
I combine coupons and store sales to maximize savings.
On the gift side, we are making more homemade treats to give. We are also rethinking just how many people we are giving gifts to. Interest in giving casual gifts to friends is down this year with many of my friends saying – not this year, its getting out of hand.

I have taken some people off my holiday shopping list.
I am watching for things on sale.
We do not buy gifts for anyone except our children. At our parents house we play dirty santa, and have loads of fun. This year we have decided to buy a Wii for the household instead of cheaper individual gifts. And as always I will fill the stockings with all kinds of goodies. As far as food, we do go all out, but a menu and shopping list keeps me focused on the necesities.
I came up with a way to make a gift inexpensive and a little more special by creating our own “Pay It Forward Craft Kits” with a letter in each one to give to family and friends. This was not only inexpensive but lots of fun. For example I have a family member that sews quilts so this year I found some great fabric on sale for 99cents a yard so I bought 4 matching color themes and matching thread. Then I copied a quilt pattern from a book a friend had and cut all the pieces of fabric. I put the pattern and all the cut fabric, batten and thread in a box with a Christmas note that read something like this
“Happy Holiday”
“Pay It Forward Craft Box”
I hope you find this as much fun as we did creating it. Enclosed you will find the craft instructions and all the items to create your master piece. The idea behind the “Pay It Forward Craft Box” is to provide you with everything you need to complete the project at no cost to you. This is a gift from us to you so that when the project is finished you can pay it forward by giving it as a gift to a friend , family or someone in need for next years holiday season.
This particular box cost us a total of $10.00 and next year some one will receive a beautiful quilt for the holidays. I also collected Ribbon and Wall Paper during the summer while shopping yard sales. I found a whole box of Wall Paper with about 10 double rolls that had a gold leaf pattern that cost me only $2 and with some red ribbon it made a gorgeous wrapped gift box. I have enough to make tons of fancy packages for the Holidays. My family has made 3 of these craft box’s for gifts so far and we have 12 more to go. It’s really fun for the whole family and won’t break the bank. Thanks for Sharing this fun giveaway

I only shop for merchandise that is on sale, or even better on clearance, and I also try to use store coupons if available.
My husband and I had to make costly purchases this summer (new glasses for me, new suit for him), so we decided those were our Christmas gifts to each other. We will have a few small things in our stockings and that’s it. Nice not to worry about shopping for each other, and we have something we need.

I get great deals on gifts all year long and keep them until the holidays, for example, back in July, I found these really great grill spatulas, that had a tenderizer built on, a bottle opener, etc. for less than a buck. (originally #30) I bought enough for every man in my life, then during the holiday season, I always have a few gifts ready for everyone!

Well, every year we are asked the same question: is there anything I can bring? Is there anything I can do to help? This year, we have actually answered by saying yes – small things really — like cranberry sauce, olives – but it all adds up.
Baking goodies and putting them in baskets rather then buying gcs
I will be making and baking more handmade items this year and cutting down on the store purchases.
I make a point of thinking about gifts early–like October. Then I can take advantage of the sales as I come to them, and I don’t have to scramble and pay more at the last minute.
I am bargain shopping big time! haha I’m broke as a single mom so it’s super tough with two sons!

We aren’t giving gifts this Christmas. Only to the children. Thanks.
We won’t be having any Christmas parties this year. Way to much money.
I make a platter of baked goods for several people each year. I’ve cut my list down from 55 to about 12 this year.
At least half of my gifts will be handmade.
My husband and I will not be exchanging gifts, and due to our economic situation, we are severely cutting back. We plan on making a lot of cookies and baked goods to give friends and family, and if I win, I plan on using the money for baking ingredients.

Normally I would buy small gifts for like our landlord, my husband’s co-workers, etc. But for the last few years since money is tight I bake cookies instead. I do chocolate covered pretzels, cookies, and bark as well as pumpkin bread. People respond so favorably and I think they prefer the cookies to whatever dinky little present I would buy.

Since I have no money anyway I am spending most of my time entering giveaways in the hope that I can win a few things for my grandbabies. All it costs me is time. For our holiday meal everyone is bringing a dish so we don’t have to spend a lot on food. And I am making some cute decorations to make the house look more festive.
