I love November, two of my favorite things are in November. Thanksgiving and my SarahB”s Birthday! We have never actually cooked the Thanksgiving meal ourselves, we usually go to my In Laws house and all have fun preparing the meal.
Of course there always seems to be something that has gone wrong, like forgetting something on the shopping list, or over cooking the yams, or someone thinking they can make the mashed potatoes and making them watery!
This year we have all divided the cooking, and our little family is in charge of the Turkey… GULP! We have never done our own turkey, and since the “turkey king” wont be here we are already trying to figure out the perfect turkey!
Some tips I have for a “Mishap Free Thanksgiving”
- Who’s coming? – make a list of everyone who will be there.
- Make a menu- know exactly what you want to cook.
- Divide the cooking- If you know someone is really good at making the mashed potatoes ask them to make them! Have everyone bring an item!
- Make a grocery list- Once the menu has been made and divided now you know what you need to buy! Make a list (and double check it!)
- Enjoy friends, family, fellowship and celebrate on Thanksgiving!

My best tip is to make a list of all the tasks that need done and when they need started. It really helps me.

A tip for cooking a turkey I would say is seasoning the meat well before putting it in the oven! I’m a newlywed and this will be my first year hosting a Thanksgiving dinner at our house! Thanks for the opportunity.

My mishap was actually not my fault. My mother didn’t refrigerate some cream puffs she bought at the store. I didn’t know she had stored them in her pantry instead of refrigerating them. My husband and I ate some for Thanksgiving dessert and we were throwing up for 3 straight days!

Last year I made pecan pies for t-giving dinner. I put the butter in the microwave to soften up. The next day I couldn’t figure out what was “off” about the pies. I happened to open the microwave and there was the butter.
I will be more careful this year.

My best tip is to ask for help. Preparing a Thanksgiving dinner is so much work, too much work for 1 person (in my opinion) so I like getting help with the chopping, lifting, basting, etc. I also don’t mind asking others to bring their favorite holiday pie or side dish.

for a mishap free thanksgiving i recommend using a slow cooker for one dish, and have a written schedule of when to put each dish into oven and what can be cooked together, so that everything is warm and ready at right time
