Samantha will be starting fourth grade in just a few weeks. When I was in fourth grade I remember learning about the menstrual cycle. I remembering having questions but I never had a close relationship and was too embarrassed to talk to my Aunt.
In fact I still remember when both my sisters first got their period. My little sister came to me and I shared my pads with her. I answered her questions the best I could and that was that. We had each other to learn about our bodies and puberty.
With Sam, and all my girls I hope they don’t feel like I did and couldn’t talk about everything that is going on with their bodies.
One way to help the talk with your daughter go smoothly is to arm yourself with plenty of information beforehand. Find the answers to common questions about puberty, period protection and more.
Though many of us postpone the first period talk, U by Kotex has an abundance of online tools that foster an easier discussion with our daughters. Kotex.com/Tween offers an interactive calendar, advice from other Moms, helpful articles and Q&A sections.
What is great is you can brush up on the facts and learn how to talk to your tween in a simple way they can understand. You can also let your tween read more and explore the site on their own, and then ask you questions if they have any.
I am very thankful that I have these resources I can go to and make the conversation that much easier with Sam.
