Test Drive: Kia Sorento LX AWD

*This test drive was through STI – The Drive Experience Company. All opinions are my own.
kiasorento (34)Earlier this month we had the opportunity to test drive the Kia Sorento LX AWD for almost two weeks. It came at the perfect time with all the snow and ice we received in Lake Arrowhead!

The second I saw the Sorento I was in love with the body style and the pretty white! I have been in the market for a crossover or SUV for myself. As a family of five and constantly on the go with all my kid’s sport activities I really need a larger vehicle for myself.

In fact when people first saw the Sorento they thought it was my Mother in law’s car. The Sorento has a very clean and classy look to it.

From the first day I drove the Sorento I was extremely pleased with how well it drove in our local mountains. With it being AWD I felt it hugged the curves nicely.

What I was the most surprised about was some of the neat features included with the Kia Sorento LX AWD. First off the AWD (All Wheel Drive) is perfect for the snowy mountains and I was pleased with how it did on gas driving up and down the mountain.

I also loved the heated seats and duel temperature control. I like to be warm while my husband would run the A/C all the time, even when it is snowing out!

The 2014 Sorento adds refinement everywhere—from a retooled grille to front and rear LED Accent Lights to Heated Power Mirrors. You have the options to add a third row and other packages like the Convenience Package and/or Premium Package. If you choose the 7-Seat Touring Package it also includes both Convenience Package and Premium Package.

Below are some of the goodies with these packages!

The 7-Seat Touring Package: The LX Touring Package offers entertainment and convenience. Technology includes UVO, Infinity® Surround Sound Audio System and a Blind Spot Detection System. Other desirable highlights include Ventilated Front Seats, Power Folding Outside Mirrors, and a driver’s seat with memory.

The third row is something you can add on to your Seroento which that price starts around $1,000 (not too bad!) The third row is  50/50 split-fold to accommodate a variety of passenger and cargo combinations.

We also liked the Blind Spot Detection System. It came in handy a few times while driving on the freeway in So. Cal. Basically the ico in the mirror lights up when another car is coming up behind you and enters your blind spot. The light stays on until the car passes you.

The Premium Package includes: The LX Premium Package gives the Sorento a truly luxurious interior that’s notable for the Leather Seat Trim, 8-Way Power Adjustable Driver’s Seat, and Interior Accent Illumination. Key advanced technology in this package includes the Supervision Meter Cluster and Auto Dimming Miror with Homelink®.

The Convenience Package includes: The Convenience Package combines many of the most desired features on the Sorento. You’ll find UVO, Backup Warning, Rear Camera Display, as well as the the luxury of Heated Front Seats.

Some of the simple things you will love about the Sorento:

Right off I liked that you can lock the rear hatch gate from opeing, and you can open the rear gate from the drivers seat!

A nice and roomy second row witch a pull down arm rest in the middle seat with drink holders. The back of the front seats offer mess holders that you can keep track of things you put in them. no more missing items!

Overall I loved driving the Kia Sorento. We took it to San Diego for a family vacation and found it to be easy to drive, comfortable and roomy. We liked that the third row we could put one seat down to allow us more “trunk” space.

I also loved the rear hatch power lift button. It made it so convenient for us to close the rear hatch.

The only thing I did not like was when the third row was up there is no “trunk” space. You can not put anything like a stroller in the back with the third row up.

The Sorento LX Engine is a  2.4 Liter 4 cylinder with 191 hp @ 6,300 rpm. The fuel tank is 17.4 gallons and approximately gets 18 mpg city driving and 24 mpg highway driving.

The Sorento featured here starts around $35,750. Find a Kia dealer at www.kia.com

  1. We have a Kia minivan and really like it. You get so much more for the money not to mention the safety features. Though having a back up camera would be nice.

  2. love the option of the third row add on (so affordable!)
So many nice features in a good looking, not too bulky vehicle.
    Very sleek!

  3. Kia is really coming along with their designs, they get better and better every year and offer more conveniences. love the cabin look.

  4. We’d like the 7 seater and OH I really like the sleek design of this one! We are in the market for a new vehicle and ready to give up on Mini vans FINALLY after having 6 kids…we are down to 2 but still do ride sharing so the 3rd seat would be great…just remove when you dont need it? And of course the heated seats will be something we will look for. It is something like -37 with the windchill today. I HATE the cold and have ridden in other’s vehicles with this option. Feels SO good for a person with back issues too!

  5. Great review and I am jealous about you taking a family drive to San Diego considering that fact that it is literally 6 degrees outside right now. No fun.

  6. I am in the market for a new car – currently we’re dealing with some severe snow in my area and I’m thinking I might need a bigger car like that!

  7. Nice car, I a so jealous you got to drive it. I would definatly love to get this card only if I could afford to buy a new car.

  8. I want one…and I love that you can see what is behind you in this. There are a lot of great features I love. The 3rd row my son would love since he has 5 kids

  9. Oh that looks so nice! I currently have a Kia Sedona minivan…and LOVE IT! It is actually a 2005…and have yet to have anything go wrong with it…other than oil changes, tires, and brakes! I will for sure buy another Kia when I trade…will have to check out the Sorento for a change!

  10. I’m going to keep this in mind when it’s time for a new SUV. I had a Kia Borrego and I loved it so much! This looks even better!
