My mom works at the school cafeteria and tells me how much of my kids sack lunches they actually eat. So I cut down on sending a mass amount of food…that is wasted, and started portioning it according to how they eat at home. I guess I was just worried they would be sitting at lunch done and still hungry. My mom reassured me that they talk more than eat and Belle NEVER eats her pb sandwich. So I don’t pack one anymore…why waste it?

We are using the holidays & one of our kid’s birthdays to talk more about gratitude, giving back, and what *real* wealth is. Our kids are just starting to earn allowances, so we’re working with them to save — and to undestand how much things cost. These kinds of conversations strengthen the sense that we’re all in this family together — and that we all know how lucky we are to have each other and good health. My kids are helping me with a Food Drive I’m co-organizing at work, too — so it just seems like we’re making alot of effort to stay grateful and in the moment.

My husband and I are taking a walk each morning; watching our diet better and are looking for ways to help the environment also with recycling, energy efficient lights and watching our usage, buying some things used and giving things away to people who can use them when we finish with something…we just redid our family room and every item we replaced went to people who had a use for it…other items went to a garage sale to help a family with a baby who has cancer to the items got a new home and we were able to be a part of helping someone. I think part of it is just being aware of the kinds of things that we can do.
