Week 21 and then hello month 6!! So exciting!
I had my midwife appt. yesterday (Tuesday) and everything was good. I did end up gaining 4 lbs but that puts my total weight gain at 5 lbs.
I had been thinking a lot about what all happens at the Birth Center for L&D so I got a few of my questions answered, and I love that my midwife is all for me making a birth plan! She also mentioned about how water births tend to make moms body temp lower on the chest because of the cooler water up that high and baby placed on the cooler wet skin can drop baby’s temp fast, I did not know this. She told me that they use warmed towels for the babies right when they are born and she does do the delayed cord clamping but not because people say about waiting for the cord to stop pulsing, she said it pulses because of the baby’s heart. interesting…
oh and she said that on average we get to go home 4 hours after birth unless we have her (baby) in the middle of the night she would rather us wait until morning to go home, especially in Feb we will have snow.
Only bummer is there is no shower at the birth center, but if we have a water birth then it should be pretty easy to clean up, plus we get to go home within 4 hours (hopefully) so no biggie. It’s almost like all I should pack is stuff for L&D and am extra change of clothes for me. and the diaper bag with everything for baby.
My next appt is November 1st, but I have to reschedule that and my anatomy scan as I forgot I am leaving for a blog trip to Ohio on the 1st. (pregnant brain).
Lets see, I also have felt a TON of movement this past week. It’s so exciting to feel the baby move around. My uterus is pretty high again, 22 weeks and measuring 26 weeks. But we also noticed this at my 16 week appt. I measured 22 and then at 19 weeks measured 20. So to me it seems my uterus grows really fast and then stays where it should be for about 5 weeks then grows really fast.
Your Baby in Week 21 of Pregnancy
Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. You may soon feel like she’s practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to her activity as you get to know her better. In other developments, your baby’s eyebrows and lids are present now, and if you’re having a girl, her vagina has begun to form as well.
