New Year’s Resolution: Challenge Yourself in the Kitchen
Did you know that 45% of Americans make resolutions each year – but only 8% actually achieve them? This year, instead of making resolutions, try setting realistic goals. Joan Hanson, Hormel Foods Test Kitchen Director has provided the top five tips to help you get started with reaching your mealtime goals this year:
- Try at least one new, quick and easy, family-friendly recipe each week (check out Hormel Foods’ recipe ideas on Pinterest and Facebook for ideas!)
- Put ‘family dinner’ on the schedule at least three times a week and commit to those days as a way to connect with your spouse and children.
- Incorporate at least three food groups into each meal, such as meat, dairy, and a vegetable
- Get the whole family involved – whether it’s cooking or cleaning, making it a team effort will ease stress and make it fun!
Did you make New Year’s resolutions this year? If so, did any of them involve your cooking goals? What is your number one cooking goal for this year?

I never make resolutions because I feel bad if I don’t stick to them. I think these tips could really help in my home. I will try them.
I should try some new foods and recipes. My recipes are so routine they’re memorized.
I need to make a resolution to makeover my kids’ lunches. They’re so bored! And so am I!
My goal is to eat more organic food
our goal/resolution was to eat less sugar and carbs, we have cheated some but overall, we eat way less than we used to and feel great about it.
One of my resolutions was to do a weekly meal plan. I can’t stand it being an hour before dinner with no idea what I plan to make. I’ve done really well so far at making a rudimentary meal plan and using things up in our kitchen by being creative.
My food goal is more fruit & veggies in my diet (organic when possible) I live alone so other tips don’t apply.
I rarely make resolutions…it’s just setting myself up for failure. 🙂 But, we try to have dinner as a family every night.
I made one to exercise more which I have been walking on the treadmill 60 minutes a day.as for cooking I am trying to eat less sweets and fatty foods
I did make a “Plan” more so then a resolution. My plan was to try to eat healthier. We are also trying to try new recipes and new foods.
My goal is to cook more and learn new recipes. Great post thanks for sharing.
I don’t make them so I guess i’m part of the 55% 😉
I don’t ever make resolutions. Nobody ever sticks to them, including me.
My number one cooking goal is to incorporate more healthy ingredients and vegetables into my meals.
I always have trouble making something good and low calories
Trying to eat better is always something I am trying to work on
I have a whole collection of recipes I print out as I run across them, in my stack of new dishes to try. I love the variation from my same old, same old.
I did resolve to get my family (especially my 2 grandkids) to eat healthier this year. I’ve been adding more veggies to meals (i now make sweet potato french fries and we bought a juicer & we love making carrot juice) and eating more fruit (I make bamboo shish-ka-bobs using pineapple, cantaloupe & honeydew wedges, separated by sliced strawberries and grapes – got this idea from tv ad for Edible Arrangements). I like your peanut butter “bagels” with slices of apple. I’ll make these for my peanut butter loving grandkids. Thanks!
great tips, I don’t make new years resolutions
