Mornings in our household can be crazy! We have had to create a new routine with the kids to help with the chaotic morning before school. But no matter what my husband and I make sure our kids have a healthy breakfast I would rather my kids be five minutes late to school than not eat.
We all know how important breakfast should be for everyone, but especially for our school kids. They need that healthy morning breakfast to sustain them until lunch time (or at least until mid-morning snack).
We have never tried Turkey Sausage before so we thought it would be a great opportunity to check it out. We didn’t tell the kids it was any different and they really liked it.
We thought it would be fun to roll the sausage in a pancake, with eggs on the side. Since the sausage isn’t pork we can’t call them pigs in a blanket so a fun name was Gobbles in a Blanket which the kids thought was goofy and of course gobbled them down.
We took the Jennie-O Turkey Sausage and instead of cutting them into patties we rolled them into sausage links. This I believe made it look familiar and appealing to the kids.
Now that we wanted to make these for breakfast before school we knew our George Foreman Grill would cook them quickly and get rid of any extra fat.
At BlogHer 2011 in San Diego I went to a private breakfast party hosted by De Wafelbakkers and I love the frozen pancakes. These are a healthier option and quick to heat. We rolled the Turkey sausage in the pancake and the kids could also take them in the car if they needed to.
We really appreciate what Jennie-O is doing with Jennie-O’s SIMPLE Service projects like Champions for Kids. Champions for Kids works to mobilize MILLIONS of people by providing training and resources to improve the lives of children in communities across America and beyond. Learn about the project and how you can help. Help our children and get the word out about how our children need breakfast! I wish that all schools provided breakfast to children before school. I think this is an excellent way to ensure all the children are eating.
Children who do not eat a nutritious breakfast have a harder time focusing and staying awake in class, which can seriously affect their future educational and professional success. Starting their day with delicious protein like Jennie-O Turkey Bacon and Sausage is a great way to help kids grow and succeed inside and outside the classroom!
There are tons of ways to help improve our breakfast eating habits and switching to healthier options. It’s important to teach our children about healthy food options but also to help their friends. I usually pack extra food items in my kids lunches as well in case any of their friends might still be hungry. I know that kids may not be allowed to share but I also feel no child should go hungry.
