Cookies for Kids’ Cancer *Giveaway closed*

Four years ago, Gretchen Witt heard the words that stopped her heart:  “Your child has cancer.”  She also learned that pediatric cancer is the no. 1 cause of death by disease among kids in the U.S., and that life-saving treatments sit on shelves because of lack of funding.  She knew she had to do what she could to help save her two-year-old son Liam and other kids battling the disease.

So she hosted a bake sale.  With the help of friends, she baked 96,000 cookies and raised nearly half a million dollars in just three weeks.  Word spread and people coast to coast wanted to help.  As a result, she started Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a non-profit that raises money for pediatric cancer research through bake sales.  Despite her tireless work to inspire hundreds of bake sales and raise millions of dollars for the cause, she experienced the ultimate tragedy.  Her brave boy’s body could fight the growing cancer no more.  In January, he passed away, embraced in his mother’s arms.  This May, Liam would have celebrated his 7th birthday.

Every day is a struggle, but Gretchen refuses to give up the fight.  It’s her hope that a record number of bake sales will be held in May to honor Liam and other kids fighting cancer each day.  In support, The Glad Products Company is matching all bake sale proceeds in May that benefit the charity, up to $225,000.

No child should have to suffer through cancer. Children should be enjoying their little lives, playing and screaming their heads off with excitement and joy. Not sitting in a hospital bed being poked and prodded, blood draws and chemotherapy.

I will be doing a bake sale with the girls in hope to help Cookies for Kids’ Cancer.  This May we will set up our own little booth and sell as many bake goods as we can to raise money and help (in any way we can).

So how can you get involved?

We have a purple toilet fundraiser. The toilet gets put in someone’s yard. They then either donate a certain amount, or they get others to donate. Then, they nominate someone else to get the toilet. We then move it to their yard, and it continues. We have raised alot of money for cancer research doing this.

We donate to toys for tot at Christmas and also it is not a lot but I always buy those differe things you see in stores, like saint patricks day they had clovers, you buy them for 1 dollar and put your name on them. I ask for them when checking out and one time this girl was like “wow you are the first person to ever ask to buy one, we usually have to beg people. That broke my heart because we always open our wallets to other countries but never to charities trying to make a difference here in our own country.
