How To Achieve Work-Life Balance as a Parent

When you’re a parent, it can sometimes feel like you’re in an ongoing circus act. This means that at times you experience amazing adrenaline rushes and feel on top of the world. On the other hand, at other times it may feel like everything’s about to fall apart. If this is the case for you, you’re likely constantly looking for a way to strike a balance between the two. The reality is that there is no perfect recipe for achieving a work-life balance. There are, however, things that you can do to help increase your chances of achieving it. This article is going to help you out by listing three things you should avoid in your bid to live a well-balanced life.

Maintain Good Habits

When you’re trying to balance getting the kids ready for school on time every morning, producing top quality work, and being a hands-on mom simultaneously, you can sometimes forget to look after yourself. In response to the stress, you’re facing you may either forget to eat or self-comfort by indulging in unhealthy foods. Both of the mentioned responses to the stress that accompanies trying to achieve a work-life balance aren’t the best for your health. Instead of picking up bad eating habits, you should try your best to keep your body well-nourished to prevent it breaking down. This means if you’re likely to forget to eat, you should at least make breakfast a priority as skipping breakfast could mean higher cholesterol levels and increased risk for cardiovascular disease. If you comfort eat, on the other hand, try and replace unhealthy snacks with healthier ones that will give you energy.

Remember to breathe

Stopping to breathe is key when trying to achieve work-life balance on a daily basis. It is important that you remember that your body can break down if it isn’t well looked after and the same can be said about your mind. You should, therefore take a few moments every day to stop and relax. Some ways to steal a few moments on busy days include letting go of the guilt that often accompanies taking a few moments to breathe, being mindful, breathing and stretching for a few minutes, and reminding yourself to relax.

Don’t Be Hard on Yourself

As a parent, you often want to be the best version of yourself for your kids but sometimes fall short. You should learn to try and cut yourself some slack and know that it’s okay because you’re human. Instead of beating yourself up about making mistakes at work or not getting the laundry done on time think about the progress you’ve made instead and remember there is still a chance to get better. Being too hard on yourself could also lead to depression, anxiety, and drug or alcohol addictions as a result of you looking for ways to relieve the stress. If you are struggling with any of the following, then you should think about looking for rehab facilities that can help you get your life back on track. Overall, always look for ways to improve yourself but also remember to pat yourself on the back for the things you do right.

There may be days you feel frustrated on the road to achieving work-life balance, but you should remember that you aren’t alone. There are likely millions of other parents out there dealing with similar struggles but striving to get better every day. The key is to focus on developing positive habits and not picking up bad ones because of the stress that accompanies every day. You should also remember that it should get easier with time and even if it doesn’t, you’ll likely get better at managing it all.

Tips to Make Your Kids Rooms More Fun With Paint & Simple Decorations

Does your child’s room need a makeover? Just like adults, kids want a comfortable, personalized bedroom that feels like it’s a place created just for them to retreat to at the end of the day. These tips will help you make your child’s bedroom more fun with paint and simple decorations.

Wall Decals

Peel-and-stick wall decals are a simple way to decorate the walls in your child’s bedroom, especially if you rent. Wall decals can be safely removed and repositioned over and over again without leaving marks or residue behind. Because these are an affordable and removable option, you can change them as often as you like to accommodate your child’s new favorite character or interest.

Maybe your little one is really into trucks and construction right now but 2 years from now they might be really into space. That’s no problem at all when you decorate with wall decals. You can find wall decals in an amazing range of styles including your child’s favorite cartoon characters, wildlife, scenery, letters, sports, and many more. You can easily create a fun and colorful theme by painting the walls a solid color and using wall decals as accents.

Accent Wall

Sometimes having an all-over pattern is too much for bedroom walls so an accent wall is perfect for adding in colorful patterns in a way that isn’t overwhelming. Bright stripes and geometric patterns are fashionable and they look great when applied to just one wall. You can create these stripes and patterns with paint, wallpaper, or wall decals and only having to apply them to one wall creates less work for you while still creating a fun and eye-catching display.

Write On The Walls

Did you know that you can use chalkboard paint or dry-erase whiteboard paint to turn any surface into one you can write on? Every kid wants to write on the walls and this actually lets them do it!

IdeaPaint offers both dry-erase whiteboard paint and clear paint that can be applied to any smooth surface or color. Either of these paints can easily transform your wall into a fun and creative space for your child to doodle and practice their writing skills. If you prefer wallpaper, you can purchase black and white wallpaper that is meant to be colored in.

Go Bright

When most people think about painting their walls, they try to decide on a single color, but that isn’t essential. You can create a bright, colorful bedroom for your child by painting 2 opposite walls one color and the other 2 opposite walls a contrasting or complementary color. It might sound like it would be too bright but it’s amazing how good this can look. Green and blue or pink and orange can complement each other very nicely and make your child’s room feel fun and lively.

Display Wall

Children love to display their latest works of art and creating a display wall allows them to do that in their own room. You can purchase inexpensive galvanized metal in sheets at most home improvement stores and mount it on the wall for an instant magnetic board.

If you prefer the corkboard look, you can find peel-and-stick cork at your local arts and crafts store. The great thing about peel-and-stick cork is that you can cut it into any shape and stick it right to the wall for a fun pin-up space.

Glow in the Dark

You want your child’s room to look great when the lights are on, but what happens when the lights are turned off?

You can find an additive for paint and most craft and hobby stores that will make the pain glow in the dark. Try your hand at painting some stars and a moon on your child’s ceiling so that when they go to bed at night, they have something to gaze at as they doze off. Every kid loves things that glow in the dark so you can use this to help them feel more comfortable with going to bed in their own room with the lights off.

No matter which of these options you choose, you’ll be able to make your kid’s room more fun with some very simple changes!

Customize your beach cruiser for better fit

Most of us learn to cycle during our childhood days. Some of us may have cycled to school and after that may not have cycled since. Looking back to those days, it was fun cycling with friends. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could turn back the clock to relive those carefree days again? If only we could!

Most of us have car and we go everywhere in our car, even to the nearby grocery store. We depend on the car to take us on our errand runs, to work, to school, and etc. because it is faster and safer. In this modern age, due to the convenience of using a car, people are getting less exercise. Due to a sedentary lifestyle, there is an increase in poor health issues.

Health and medical experts are coming up with all kinds of health programmes to encourage people to exercise. They are reaching out to the schools, bring awareness of healthy living and benefits of exercise among the younger generations. It is a positive move to start health education when they are still young so that it will become their lifestyle. The programmes also include the older generation with walking exercise, lying down exercise, sitting exercise, and other less strenuous exercises.

For those who love the outdoor life, would most probably enjoy cycling. Cycling is a wonderful exercise and great for working out the different muscles in your body. Outdoor cycling allows you to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings, parks, beaches, etc. and you also get to breath in fresh clean air in unpolluted areas.

You can check out the different types of bicycle available with an online search and you will probably find among the top bicycle sites. If your friends are riding beach cruiser, then it is natural that you will be interested in getting a women’s beach cruiser to join in their rides.

Key Reasons To Choose An Electric Fireplace Over A Traditional Fireplace

You need to keep your family warm during the icy months, and you should be able to do so without high costs and large time commitments. Electric fireplaces have some inherent advantage over their wood counterparts. We will let you know what these are so that you can consider if one is right for your home.

  1. You Will Save Time

Traditional fireplaces require a lot of cleaning and maintenance. You will regularly need to clean out the ash from inside the fireplace. Don’t forget about cleaning and maintaining your chimney. Electric fireplaces require no such hassle.

Do you really want to have to hack up some logs every time you want to get warm? Don’t forget that when running a fire you will need to regularly top up the wood. With an electric fireplace, you simply turn it on and walk away.

It’s clear an electric fireplace is a lot easier.

  1. Many Different Design Choices Are Available

Electric fireplaces come in all kinds of shapes and size. You could choose a traditional mantle design, a more contemporary design, or even an electric wall fireplace. The opportunities are numerous, and no matter the shape of your living shape, you are likely to find what you need.

Of course, traditional fireplaces come in different designs. However, the options are much more limited.

  1. They Don’t Get As Hot

If you have young children walking or crawling around, an electric fireplace is extra handy. Its exterior won’t get as hot, making it safer. Of course, this doesn’t mean that it will be completely cool. Some models still get quite hot in certain areas (just nowhere near as hot as a wood fireplace). It’s still advised that you teach your children about the risks involved.

  1. Automatic Shutoffs For Further Safety

Many of the latest models feature automatic-shutoff systems. If the room has reached the optimal temperature, then they will switch off rather than continuing to heat. This is also handy for when you leave home and worry if you left the device running.

  1. Low Upfront Cost

Traditional fireplaces can cost thousands and thousands to have installed. Electric fireplaces are much cheaper and can often be had for as little as a few hundred dollars. You also won’t need to worry about chimney cleaning expenses or purchasing firewood.

  1. No Fumes

Some fireplaces can get smoky and even release hazardous fumes. Electric fireplaces don’t release any smoke, gas, or vapors.

  1. You Still Get The Look Of Fire

Electric fireplaces are designed to give the appearance of flames by using lights. These are displayed on a picture or sculpture of a log. This helps give an authentic wood-fire effect without the strings attached.

  1. Longativity

Many of the latest models are designed to last a long time. Corrosion, rust, and breakdowns are infrequent. While these will vary from brand to brand and model to model, in general, electric fireplaces are well rated for their durability.

Final Thoughts

An electric fireplace might be the solution you need to keep your family safe from the winter chill. You will be able to save yourself time and money while possibly reducing the dangers posed by traditional fireplaces.

A Guide To Educating Your Children

There is far more to educating your children than simply ushering them out of the door and sending them off to school aboard the bus each morning. Young children are especially impressionable, and they will learn by watching what their parents do, and what they say. You have a duty of care to your children to educate them and help them understand the world and how other people interact with one another. Educating your children involves fostering interests and encouraging them when they undertake tasks and activities. Your primary concern should be caring and providing for your children, and teaching them wholesome, kind, and understanding values.

Finding The Right School

Unless you plan to educate your children from home, you will need to find a good and reputable school for them to attend. Finding the appropriate school that performs well, is close to your home, and one where your children feel happy and settled can sound like a tall order. However, you need to do your best to get your children into the very best schools available. Some schools offer scholarships and bursaries, so it’s always worth investigating and finding out whether each school you apply to offer such. Education is hugely important, and you might want to consider the idea of moving states or even emigrating to another country to seek a better education. Duncombe Private School takes children from ages 1 -11 and is in Herford, England – about 30km from central London.

Understanding Additional Needs

The best way to educate your kids will differ from individual to individual in the way that some kids are visual learners, while others are kinesthetic learners (they learn by doing, by getting involved). You can find out which way suits your kids by taking them to see a child behavior therapist or get an indication of which way they favor by taking an online test. If you suspect your child, or children, has a learning disability, then ensure that you have them tested and inform the school they’re attending of their extra requirements.

Answer Their Questions

Be frank and honest with your kids when answering their questions. Kids will have to learn about the birds and bees at some point in their early lives, so educate them and make sure they know that they can ask whatever questions they wish and that you will give an open and transparent response. Your kids will appreciate you telling them honestly instead of skating over their questions and giving coy clipped answers. Many topics are new to children, and many things do not make sense at first. Children have young inquisitive minds, so oblige their questions and educate your children with true and informative answers.

Teach Them How To Stay Safe

In order to protect your children, you need to teach them about the dangers in the world. You should be doing this very earlier on in their lives so that they are aware and can take heed of your warning. Educate your kids on the dangers on the road, on the internet, of stranger danger, safe sex (before puberty starts), the risks involved in experimenting with substances, and alcohol. Be extra certain that your kids know not to walk alone in the dark and not to play around with electrical devices and sockets, for example.

The Perfect Gift Ideas for Your Daughter’s 16th

It might seem like just yesterday that your daughter was celebrating her very first birthday, and now she’s 16! Time flies, but rather than reminiscing about the best, you should be thinking about what you’re going to give to her to mark this special landmark birthday. That sweet 16 birthday always means a lot, so you don’t want to get this wrong. If you’re not sure which gift is the perfect one for your daughter, read on now.

A Relaxing Spa Day

Everyone loves to relax and take things easy, and that’s exactly what your daughter should be doing on her birthday. A relaxing day at a spa with a few friends could make a really good birthday present for her. Not only will she have the chance to relax, it’ll also be a great social gathering with her friends, and that’s really important for most teenagers.

A Special Necklace

A necklace is a really nice 16th birthday gift because you can put lots of time and effort into choosing the one that they’ll cherish for a long time. You never know; it might be one of those few accessories that they keep with them for the rest of their lives. You might even want to create a custom necklace so that it feels more thought through and specific. That’s never a bad thing.

A Trip Abroad With Friends

Another fantastic social idea that can work well as a gift is paying for your daughter and a couple of friends to take a trip abroad. It could be exactly what they want and need. For example, many people head to a cultural city like Paris or Amsterdam when it’s their birthday. It could be a great way to give your daughter more independence as well. Just make sure they’re mature enough to deal with it.

Money for Driving Lessons

In most places, it’s possible for teenagers to begin driving lessons when they’re 16. Be sure to check the laws in your area; in some places it’s necessary to attend educational courses before the actual driving begins. If all’s good, this can be the kind of gift that truly starts your daughter on the path to true independence. Once she eventually get her licence, she won’t be reliant on you as her personal taxi service either.

A Scrapbook Full of Memories

An additional gift for your daughter could be a scrapbook full of memories and photos from your daughter’s first 16 years on the planet. It’s a really nice way to mark the occasion for them, and it’s something they’ll be able to keep with them and look back on for a long time to come.

Your daughter’s 16th birthday will only happen once, so you want to make it as special as it possibly can be. Be sure to find the right gift because if you do, they’ll remember and cherish it for a long time to come. Hopefully, the ideas that have been mentioned here have inspired you.

How to Create an Epic Dance Competition Tote

Dance competitions and recitals are the peak of the dance season, where performers get a chance to showcase all their hard work throughout the year. As a parent, the experience can be bitter sweet. You’re presented with competition fees and the cost of costumes and travel, but you also get to see your child pursuing their passion onstage.

To make the experience more sweet and less bitter, preparation is key. One way to ensure you’re always prepared for recitals and competitions is to put together an epic dance tote to keep everything organized backstage. Here are some of the key components for creating a tote the other dance parents will be envious of.

The Bag Itself

There are a few approaches to creating a dance tote, but a few key elements remain the same. For one, it needs to be easily transported. Therefore, it needs wheels or handles to make it move. Secondly, it needs to be easily stored, so a small, compact kit is preferable over something big and bulky.

Many choose to use a small, clear tote-bin while others gravitate toward a carry-on suitcase. While the suitcase is nice because of the handles and wheels, it also makes it easier for the contents to shift and fall into disarray. A small, clear tote bin with handles allows for easy storage without tipping and is preferable for glancing inside to make sure everything is there.

Some of the apparel items you need will be obvious. For example, you know you require the costumes needed for the event and ballet shoes or other types of footwear. You should also include comfy pants and a sweater, as it can be chilly backstage (even more so after being physically active under bright lights) and the costumes aren’t appropriate for lounging between performances.

Many dancers will pack a fuzzy, zip-up onesie for easy removal. Slippers or flip flops are another popular choice. Basically, anything to stay warm and comfortable until the next performance. Just be sure to have button-up or zipper tops, as to not damage the makeup and hair.

Your dancer will need to fuel his or her performance throughout the day. Depending on the schedule, they may not be able to sneak away and eat a proper meal. Finding a balance between non-perishable items that will keep and proper nutrition will be a challenge. Add a couple of pieces of fruit and some granola. If you know they’ll be able to eat early on in the day, pack something high-protein like Greek yogurt or a wrap.

Keep the food in a separate bag in the tote to ensure you don’t spill anything on the costumes. If you plan on using an ice pack or cold water bottle, be sure to keep the costumes in separate bags as well to reduce dampness from condensation.

Your child might be completely content to sit and chat with the other dancers backstage. Or they might need some time alone to unwind. Have them pack a book, coloring, or electronic entertainment to keep them busy before performances. Having a few different options throughout the day will help keep them engaged.

An Inventory List

Stick a laminated, dry-erase sheet on the inside cover of your tote bin that lists everything that should be inside. This way, you or your child can do a quick check before, during, and after an event to ensure everything is in place before moving on. This is a simple way to identify if anything is missing before you leave home or the venue.

The list can include anything from costumes and shoes to snacks and entertainment. Having this attached will also help your child become more responsible for their items with guidance from you.

Have your child create a name label and decorate it according to their style, so they can quickly identify their bin. The added personal flair will make the bin both functional and fun!

How to Treat Your Back Pain

Back pain seems to be a much more prevalent problem in the 21st century than it ever was before, and it seems that a sedentary lifestyle is causing most of the problems. But it isn’t just the office lackeys who are struggling – those of us who stay at home with the kids while juggling work can also succumb to back pain every now and then.

The thing is that when you go from hours on the computer to bending down to play or lugging big bags of shopping out of the car, you can quite easily put your back at risk and do some significant damage. Being a working mom isn’t an easy option! Fortunately, the back is quite amiable and you can build the muscles up and get treatment to deal with the pain.

What is the Best Treatment for Back Pain?

Back pain is almost always muscular and seeing a physiotherapist will certainly help. They will massage the muscles to release any built up tension and give you some exercises to do at home too. A similar practice is osteopathic treatment which seems to work in a similar way to physiotherapy.

Though most back pain will go away by itself, you are well advised to apply some heat if your muscles feel seized up. A heat pack that you microwave is a good idea: all you need to do is lie down on a flat surface and let the heat do the job for you. A bath will likely have a similar effect and creams like Deep Heat should help too.

How Can You Avoid Back Pain?

To avoid back pain, you first need to figure out what it is you are doing to cause it. For many people who spend all day hunched over a laptop, back pain is quite easy to diagnose as the consequence of staying in one position for too long. For others, lifting heavy items incorrectly may be taking a toll.

If you are having to spend a lot of time working at a desk, try to take a few minutes every hour to walk up and down and stretch out again. Reaching high and doing the pilates ‘stacking your spine’ exercise are both good ways to release the tension in your back and elongate your spine. In fact, there are lots of Pilates exercises that are great for your back that you can do very easily.

Which Exercises Will Build Your Muscles?

Walking is the best thing you can do for your back as it is very gentle and will stretch your muscles gradually. Jogging and running are higher impact as your feet hit the ground with more force and while they might be fine when your back is happy, it’s best to lay off while you are struggling with pain.

To build the muscle between your shoulders, rowing is the best thing you can do. Squeeze your shoulder blades together tightly as you row. Though rowing is usually an aerobic exercise, concentrate on flexing your muscles rather than building speed. This should help you to build the muscle gradually without doing any damage.

5 Problems and Issues Teens Face (And How to Help)

Raising a child during their teenage years is a challenge. Teenagehood is a pivotal time where our children will need more guidance and encouragement than any other age. As parents, we shouldn’t be afraid of a teenager’s emotions, impulsivity, or rebellious tendencies, but instead, learn to understand them and why they happen. Remember when you were in their place?

These are five problems and issues teens face, and ways that we can help them:

Depression and anxiety

A teen’s life is constantly packed with things to do: homework, studying for tests, having a part-time job, extra-curricular activities, socializing with friends, and trying to find the time to relax in solitude! Simultaneously, they deal with unique circumstances of their personal life. As a result, a teen’s life can be very overwhelming at times, and they may have no idea on how to start coping with the activities mentioned above. Possessing no idea how to balance all of the above can drive them to depression and anxiety.

We should encourage them to speak about their issues and concerns to either us, a professional, and friends, and at the same time, introduce them to healthy coping mechanisms for stress, such as exercise and meditation. Teenagers experience emotions and stress in a more amplified manner in comparison to adults. It’s just in their inherent nature! Furthermore, we can help them create a realistic schedule that manages time more efficiently but still leaves room to have fun.

Substance experimentation and abuse

Teens use substances for the following reasons: curiosity, peer pressure, and boredom. But a common problem for teens is their lack of knowledge on the impact of substances. They assume that substances are harmless and aren’t aware of the potential long-term consequences. How could they? Majority of their peers may partake in drugs and alcohol and illustrate no signs of suffering anything negative from doing so.

We need to educate them on the subject of substance experimentation and abuse. Teen addiction and substance abuse are more common than they realize. With the education and knowledge of how drugs and alcohol affect the body, mind, and one’s future, teens can make better and informed decisions when in the situation of being offered substances, and learn to prioritize their personal well-being over the desire to follow the crowd.

Technology and cyber addiction

Today, the world is filled with numerous technological advances and branches of social media. Teens will naturally be a part of that culture since their generation grew up with the technology. However, while technology and social media have their positive attributes, such as enabling one to communicate with a loved around the globe or access sources of information at the tip of their fingers, they have a fair share of negative qualities as well. Social media is saturated with endless amounts of photo-shopped images and perfect photo feeds, and using their technology without moderation can transform the habit into an addiction. Furthermore, they also have the ability to open the door for cyberbullying, a form of bullying makes it easier to harass someone without any physical consequences of confrontation.

Give your teen restrictions on their technology and social media use, and warn them of cyberbullying and to never bully someone themselves. What they see on their feeds is nothing but the highlights of another person’s life. No one possesses a perfect life, and the idea of having one is unrealistic. Teens need to know that social media has the power to make them create unrealistic expectations of themselves and their lives, and ultimately, life is better experienced when there’s not a phone in front of their faces all the time.

Low self-esteem

Teenagers act on their emotions, which heightens their negative thoughts. There are numerous reasons as to why a teen would have low-self esteem, but the most common would is as having the habit of berating themselves after making mistakes or being imperfect. It’s painfully normal for them to feel they aren’t good enough or adequate.

To start, teach your teen to begin speaking to themselves with kindness rather than criticism. Getting lost in a negative thought cycle is unfortunately easy, but the negative thoughts they have aren’t genuinely true. They are good enough. Remind them that mistakes and failures do not make them any less of a person; those things make them human. They will learn from their past experiences and become better people because of them.

Finding their authentic identity

A teenager is in the limbo between being an adult and a child, and attempting to find their identity in conjunction with juggling school, work, and social life will be confusing. They want to be accepted and fit in with their friends, but at the same time do the things that actually make them happy, even if that may not agree with the current crowd.

Encourage them to pursue any interest they may have and focus on their strengths. You never want to hold back a teen from participating in what makes them feel fulfilled and happy. Additionally, tell them to choose friends that care about their well-being over their “coolness” and supports them through difficult times. It’s important to remind teenagers that they should never discredit what they value or find important. Most of all, the opinion they have of themselves matters most at the end of the day, and it should be something they are proud to be.

Effective Way to Treat Infections

Augmentin is a medicine that contains Amoxicillin and Clavulanate (clavulanic acid). Amoxicillin acts by inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) that play an important role in the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. By blocking the bacterial cell wall synthesis, Amoxicillin exhibits a bactericidal effect (kills bacteria). Unfortunately, over time, bacteria developed a mechanism to fight this active ingredient by initiating the formation of an enzyme called beta-lactamase. Beta-lactamase degrades all antibiotics that have a beta-lactam structure. The sole use of Augmentin has therefore become ineffective in the treatment of certain Amoxicillin-resistant infections. That’s why Amoxicillin is often combined with Clavulanate, which has the role of degrading beta-lactamase produced by bacteria, thus preventing the degradation of Amoxicillin.

Augmentin is used to treat the following infections in children and adults:

  • Bacterial infections of the upper respiratory tract (tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and sinusitis).
  • Middle-ear bacterial infections (otitis media).
  • Bacterial infections of the lower respiratory tract (bronchitis and pneumonia).
  • Bacterial infections of the upper urinary tract occurring in the kidney (pyelonephritis).
  • Bacterial infections of the bladder (cystitis).
  • Bacterial bone and joint infections.
  • Bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissue.

Augmentin has proven to be effective in treating infections caused by the following bacteria:

  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Staphylococcus saprophyticus
  • Staphylococcus epidermidis
  • Escherichia coli
  • Klebsiella species
  • Fusobacterium species
  • Enterobacter species
  • Moraxella catarrhalis
  • Streptococcus pneumoniae
  • Streptococcus pyogenes
  • Proteus mirabilis
  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae

It is always recommended to make an antibiogram before starting Augmentin. In this way, the doctor will determine whether bacteria that caused the infection are sensitive to this drug.

Dosage exists in various pharmaceutical forms, including:

  • Oral suspension (syrup), 125mg/5ml.
  • Oral suspension (syrup), 200mg/5ml.
  • Oral suspension (syrup), 250mg/5ml.
  • Oral suspension (syrup), 400mg/5 ml.
  • Tablets, 375mg (containing 250mg of Amoxicillin and 125mg of Clavulanate).
  • Tablets, 625mg (containing 500mg of Amoxicillin and 125mg of Clavulanate).
  • Tablets, 1000mg (containing 875mg of Amoxicillin and 125mg of Clavulanate).

The dose depends primarily on the severity of the infection and the age of the patient.

The recommended dose for infants under 3 months of age is 30 mg/kg daily divided into two doses. For example, if your baby weighs 4 kg, then the daily dosage will be 4 x 30 = 120mg daily (divided into two doses: 60mg twice daily). This means you should give 2.5ml of the Augmentin 125mg/5ml syrup twice a day. The Augmentin 125 mg/5 ml syrup is suitable for infants younger than 3 months and it is not recommended to use syrups that have a higher concentration of Amoxicillin because infants below 3 months of age do not have a sufficiently developed kidney function to be able to excrete whole amount of drug.

The recommended dose for children older than 3 months and children who weigh up to 40 kg in the treatment of otitis media, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, and other serious infections is 22.5mg/kg twice a day. The recommended dosage for children older than 3 months and children who weigh up to 40 kg in the treatment of less serious infections (tonsillitis, mild forms of pharyngitis, etc.) is 12.5mg/kg twice a day.

The recommended dose for patients who weigh more than 40 kg in the treatment of severe infections is 1000mg of Augmentin twice a day, while the dosage in the treatment of less severe infections is 625mg twice a day.

Important to Know

Augmentin is more likely to cause side effects (especially diarrhea) if it is administered three times a day than when administered twice a day, although the total daily dose is less when administered three times a day. It has also been proven that taking this drug at the start of the meal significantly reduces the risk of digestive side effects, which are a relatively common.

Animal studies have shown that Augmentin is safe for use during pregnancy. It has also been proven that this medicine does not cause congenital malformations in pregnant women. However, one study has shown that the drug can cause necrotizing enterocolitis in newborns whose mothers have taken Augmentin during pregnancy. Given that necrotizing enterocolitis can endanger the life of newborns, a careful estimate of the benefit / risk is required prior starting this medicine during pregnancy.

Both active substances are excreted in breast milk and can cause fungal infections of the mouth mucous membrane or diarrhea in infants. If an adverse event occurs in infants, breastfeeding should be discontinued during the therapy.

Augmentin should not be used in patients who are allergic to any beta-lactam antibiotic (Cephalosporins and Penicillin). Allergic reactions, such as itching, urticaria, erythema multiforme, vasculitis, exfoliative dermatitis, muscle pain, joint pain, and anaphylactic shock, can occur. If any symptoms of an allergy occur, you must contact your doctor immediately.

Augmentin can cause liver damage, which is usually mild and reversible. However, cases of fatal outcomes due to acute liver damage (occurring in less than 0.00025% of patients) have been reported. If you notice signs of liver damage, such as jaundice and pain in the upper right stomach, you should contact your physician immediately. Keep in mind that liver damage can occur even a few weeks after discontinuation of the therapy.

The presence of crystals and blood in the urine has been also reported as a possible adverse effect of Augmentin. If you notice crystals in the urine or changed urine color, you should contact your doctor immediately, as this may be a sign of kidney damage.

Decrease in the number of red blood cells (anemia), white blood cells (leukopenia), and blood platelets (thrombocytopenia) have also been reported as a rare adverse effect of the drug. If you notice malaise, tingling of the fingers, pale skin (signs of anemia), bruising (sign of thrombocytopenia), or weakened immunity (leukopenia), you should contact your doctor.

Augmentin can cause the following side effects:

  • Anemia

  • Leukopenia
  • Fungal infections in the mouth
  • Allergic reactions
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting

Should Get a Nose Job?

Over the years the world of beauty and cosmetology has grown towards beauty standards that stress on flawlessly sculpted features, spotless skin and shaped bodies. There is a school of thought who believes that such notions of beauty result in esteem issues among people who do not fit those standards. However, as a matter of fact, the cosmetic industry has invented methods that now allows everyone to enjoy those perfect features without feeling low about themselves.

One of the most troubled facial areas for a large number of people is their nose. Even a person, who is otherwise very attractive might be struggling with a nose that is either crooked, or too long, or too short or simply does not complement the rest of the face. In the past, many celebrities have been known to tackle this issue by going for surgical rhinoplasties. However, common people are still reluctant to take that route because other than being insanely expensive, the idea of going under the knife to alter your facial feature makes most people uncomfortable. The good news is that recently, new non-invasive methods have been introduced that alter your nose features by injecting fillers without any invasive surgeries.

One of the most distressed groups of people when it comes to physical appearance are the mothers. Birthing takes a toll on a woman’s body and the phase of raising kids is a never-ending cycle of stress factors. Keeping up with the house chores while taking care of the kids messing around the house and managing work at the same time is often too much for a woman to be able to take out time for herself.

Professional cosmetic procedures centres such as Dore Aesthetics SG can perform these procedures with a finesse and at a very reasonable price. If you are a mum who would like to feel beautiful and healthy again, here is why you should consider a non-invasive nose job.

Health Issues

Nose jobs are not always about fixing the shape of your nose in order to look attractive. It is often necessary to treat the underlying health issues. How many nights have you struggled to catch a good night’s sleep because your sinus kept you from sleeping peacefully? Despite having an exhausting day and tired body, you find it difficult to sleep because you are unable to breathe because of a deviated septum. You can get rid of the problem for good by going for a non-invasive procedure that will fix your nose in a snap, thereby enabling you to breathe more smoothly and sleep peacefully.

Are you one of that mom who bumped into a wall with force or fell off a staircase while you were running after a hyperactive toddler? Nasal bones are extremely delicate and can be easily damaged due to even minor accidents. Getting a nose job is a very easy way to undo that damage.

You might not be having a health issue that makes breathing difficult or an accident that had deformed your nose. Yet you might just not be very confident about your nose structure because it does not look perfectly sculpted. As a mother, you might not have the skill and luxury to spend an hour in front of your mirror every day to sculpt and contour your nose to make it look perfect. A non-surgical rhinoplasty can solve your problem permanently and can leave you with a beautifully sculpted nose without going under the knife.

Easy Ways To Improve Your Smile

Your smile is an important part of who you are. If you have a poor smile you are unlikely to be willing to smile often. This can mean that you lack confidence as you will always feel uncomfortable in social situations.

While the Hollywood smile is the epitome of the smile, expensive whitening and medical procedures are not the only ways to improve your smile:

Brushing Teeth

The first step has to be building a habit of brushing your teeth in the morning and the evening. This is about more than just creating that perfect smile. Brushing your teeth twice a day improves your dental health and your overall health.

Spend at least 2 minutes brushing in the morning and the evening. You need to focus on every part of your mouth.

Visit The Dentist

You won’t get a perfect or even an improved smile unless you are prepared to visit your dentist in bankstown and have a check-up every 6 months.

The dentist should monitor the health of your teeth and can give you advice regarding whitening; this will definitely improve your smile and confidence.

Give Up Smoking

Caffeine can leave stains on your teeth but caffeine is much worse for them. If you smoke then your teeth will gradually go yellow; it is difficult to repair the damage after this has happened.

It is good idea to whiten your smile. This is not just because Hollywood is doing it. There is no a huge emphasis on having a Hollywood style smile, if you don’t have one then you’re going to feel the pressure and may be reluctant to smile.

Adopting some dentist recommended whitening stripes or similar will allow you to whiten your teeth safely. The result is a better smile and higher levels of confidence.

Most people don’t want to wear braces but they can be a great way to straighten your teeth. This will make a dramatic difference to your smile.

It’s worth noting that you can get braces which are virtually invisible; this will help you to keep smiling while you’re wearing them.

Braces are not just for young people! They can be used by adults to improve the position of your teeth; proving you’re never too old to get a great smile.

Feel It

Of you want your smile to glow then you need to smile when you mean it. A great set of pearly whites look nice but it will only look stunning when your whole face lights up as well. A great smile is one that is given with confidence and feeling.

Don’t smile unless you have something to smile about! This doesn’t mean you should never smile, if you don’t feel like it then focus on something that does make you feel positive. The difference in your smile will be obvious.

Look In The Mirror

Take a look at your smile in the mirror and be honest. It’s okay to say your smile is great! If you don’t like it then consider which areas you don’t like and work on changing the way you smile.

Small changes are best as you’ll be able to stick to them over time.

Top Tips For Making Your Home Safer For Small Children

As a parent, making sure that your home is a safe haven for your children must naturally be a top priority for you as it also is for millions of other parents across the country.

Despite this, over three million children are injured each year in their homes in the USA. The vast majority of those injuries could also have been easily preventable with basic safety procedures.

Here are the top tips for making your home a safer place for small children:

Take Basic Fire Safety Procedures

Small children, and particularly children ages five and under, are far more likely to be killed in a home fire versus older children for the simple fact that it’s more difficult for a smaller child to escape.

As a golden rule of thumb, have a smoke alarm detector installed on every floor of the home (including the basement) and have at least one fire extinguisher for every five hundred square feet in the home.

It’s also wise to test out the fire detector at least once a month to confirm that it works. While over ninety five percent of American households have a smoke detector, less than twenty percent of them are actually tested regularly. It would also be smart to install carbon monoxide alarms as well.

Install Motorized Shades Over The Windows

It’s easy for young children as well as pets to become strangled on the cords to blinds and shades. Negate this from happening by placing beds and furniture away from the windows while simultaneously replacing your corded shades and blinds with motorized versions that lack cords.

You can further improve window safety in your home by installing stops and guards in your windows to reduce the risk of your children accidentally falling out.

Guard Your Children Against Allergens

Since children breathe in more air than adults per pound, they are more vulnerable to allergens and other indoor pollutants.

You can reduce the number of allergens in your home by taking the following steps:

  • Install a dehumidifier to keep humidity levels low (especially in the basement, where moisture tends to accumulate the fastest)
  • Never smoke inside your home
  • Keep exhaust fans running in the bathrooms and kitchen
  • Swap out your furnace filters regularly
  • Keep your windows open while remodeling

Install Gates In Your Stairs

It’s easy to see how stair-related accidents are the top cause of injury for children fourteen years of age and younger.

Specifically, install gates both at the bottom and at the top of your stairs for your kids who are particularly young. You can also take things a step further by placing cushions at the bottom of stairs to protect your kids should they end up falling down the stairs anyway.

Making Your Home Safer

These are just a small handful of basic and yet effective procedure you can take to make your home a safer and healthier environment for your children.

Handling Insect Pests At Home

Nothing can ruin the pleasant environment of your home quite like an invasion of pests. Whether it’s ants invading the kitchen or thousands of tiny termites destroying the house itself, nobody wants pests of any kind in their way.

As a result, we spend a lot of time and money trying to keep these unwanted visitors out of the house and yard. Some of the techniques we use are effective, while others are not so great.

The first thing we need to think about as we plan our pest-proofing strategy is the location of the pests. Moxie pest control in Columbus Ohio uses different techniques for the two different locations, and as homeowners, the things we can do outside are very different from our options inside as well. We must make sure to approach the problem correctly.

The first thing most of us think of is killing the pests, and with the help of a good exterminator, this is definitely an effective option. We can also look at the bigger picture and work with our professional to combat pests on our own with a few simple techniques.

A well-sealed home that effectively excludes pests is better than any other technique you can come up with. There can be thousands of pests outside that will never come indoors if you have properly sealed all the gaps and cracks.

This is very effective but also very time-consuming. It will involve some hours with the caulk gun and a lot of crawling around. You should also think about things like the door sweeps that can help to keep entry points tight, and it’s worth a family lecture on keeping doors and windows fully closed at all times. Check your window screens to make sure those warm days don’t turn into an insect house party for you. An added bonus to sealing up is energy savings.

A good, safe way to keep pests under control is simply to make them stay away. There are lots of techniques for doing this, including specialized lanterns that can keep insects away. And our regular lights can be managed carefully to keep nuisance bugs away from people and doors.

We can’t always keep pests out of the entire yard or the entire hiking trail, but we can repel pests very directly by using insect repellent on ourselves. There are plenty of safe products out there with DEET that can be used on kids and adults. Just make sure to use them according to their label instructions and to reapply as directed. Be sure to use the product on clothing as well, since that’s often where insects make contact with us. And speaking of clothing, consider long pants when you’ll be in heavy vegetation.

Habitat Modification

When a pest chooses to occupy an area, the habitat must be suitable. The pest must have the appropriate environment for its normal life cycle. If we can change that, we can get them away from us. With ticks, we can do a lot of good just by trimming tall grass where ticks like to wait on their prey.

But perhaps the most effective means to keep pests away is to make sure that they do not have access to food. No matter what else may be appealing to them about a particular location, the pest won’t stay if it can’t eat. This is a little more practical indoors, where we can seal food containers and clean up spills.

When we are the food source, such as with mosquitoes and ticks, it’s impossible to eliminate the entire supply, but if we’ve done a good job using an exterminator in coordination with home maintenance, repellents, and habitat modification, we can still spend some time outdoors without excessive six-legged company.
