When I saw these adorable cakes over at Wine and Glue I knew I had to make them for Shelby’s Birthday! These cakes are really simple to make, and a lot of fun!
Since making these cakes I learned more about using safer food coloring and will try them in the future. I used two boxes of yellow cake mix and made the mix as directed. Then I divided each box into threes so there would be six bowls of approximately the same amount of batter.
Add the food coloring until you get the desired color.
I had only one baking sheet that had a side to keep the batter in so I had to bake them one at a time. You will need to use parchment paper on a 15 x 10 baking pan.
Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. When they come out of the oven you can lift the parchment paper right off the baking sheet and let it cool completely.
(Sarah and my MIL helped me here because I had a tired baby) When the cakes have all cooled you can use a cookie cutter to cut out the cakes.
After cutting out the cakes I put them in the freezer overnight so they would be easier to stack and make the mini cakes in the morning. I used the Pillsbury Easy Frost and it made it so easy to add just enough on each layer and then looked pretty on top. I sprinkled some colorful sprinkles and they came out great!
Baking took the longest time, the actual layering of cakes took less than twenty minutes.
