All parents know how intimidating it can be to walk into a bookstore, or go to Amazon online, and see the thousands of choices. How is a parent or grandparent to know which books are the most entertaining and educational for their little ones these days?
The owners of Little One Books, Barney Cohen and Joan McCoy, found the same issue when they were trying to select media for their five grandchildren. The need for a resource of very young children’s media that is less intimidating and trustworthy inspired them to create what is now Little One Books. Barney and Joan handpick only the greatest titles in each product category. Unlike many companies that sell children’s media.
They have also divided products into each age. It is their belief that a child of 8 months and a child of 3 years are at very different development stages in life and would be stimulated by different books, music, and visuals.
We received the adorable Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me by Eric Carle Book and the girls just love it. Samantha even read the book to Sarah and she loved that Monica (yes, she says the name wrong until I realize it actually says Monica) asks her Papa to get the moon.
In this unique and delightful picture book, the story literally unfolds as pages open dramatically, extending both outward and upward. Monica wants the moon to play with, so her Papa sets out to get it for her. It isn’t easy to climb all the way up to the moon, but he finally succeeds – only to find that the moon is too big to carry home! The way in which this problem is solved is a joyful surprise.
This is a multi-faceted story that appeals to children visually, verbally and emotionally, and which also contains a first lesson in natural history, depicting the eternal cycle of the waxing and waning of the moon. The simple text, just right for reading aloud or for the beginning reader expresses perfectly the purity of a father’s love for his child.
