Authentic Taste of Chicago in Chino – Al’s Beef *Giveaway closed*
Al’s Beef started as a neighborhood food stand more than 60 years ago in Chicago’s “Little Italy” and gradually grew into a quintessential Chicago legend. Recently, Al’s Beef announced that Mike Ditka, Chicago sports legend, famed coach, football player and television commentator, joined the company as its official spokesperson.
The history of Al’s #1 Italian Beef Restaurants dates back to 1938 when Al Ferrari and his sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Chris Pacelli, Sr., developed the original idea and recipe for the original Italian beef sandwich. The great Chicago sandwich was actually formed out of necessity during the Great Depression when meat was scarce. In order to make the most of what they had, Chris and Al would slice the meat very thin and place it on thick loaves of fresh made Italian bread. The original recipe, which is still used in all Al’s Beef locations today, was developed in Al’s home kitchen.
Now Al’s Beef has come to Chino and my family and I had the opportunity to go check it out! We really didn’t know what to expect when we arrived but we found lots of our favorites. I wanted a Chilli Dog!
We had to get a run-down of how the sandwiches work! You can get your famous Al’s Italian Beef Sandwich in 4 different levels of juiciness:
“Regular”
That’s how we do it for most of our guests. Just enough beef gravy (the “juice”) is added to make it nice and juicy, but not over the top.
“Wet”
Additional gravy is added to the sandwich, the juicier the better.
“Dipped”
The crown jewel of juicy, the entire sandwich is submerged into the gravy. Roll up your sleeves and get ready to eat! You’ll need the “Italian Stance” for this one.
“Dry”
No extra gravy goodness but still delicious. You might want to re-think this option though. Our beef gravy is the gold. Go ahead and be a little adventurous and crazy; get it a little wet. You’ll love it.
We got all of our sandwiches dry! Each sandwich after it’s made is stuffed with your fries inside the wrapper. The kids thought this was fun.
Overall we liked Al’s Beef and can’t wait to go again!
ONE winner will receive a $50.00 Gift Card that can be used at any Al’s Beef Locations!
