A&H Switch & Save Challenge: In Love with Washing Clothes? *Giveaway closed*

Sarah is happy with the smell of her Blankie
Seriously who would have thought that after a month of using the A&H Essentials Fabric Softener Sheets I would be in love with washing clothes? I mean over the past month I have talked about ways to get the kids to help with washing clothes, how to save a little money with doing laundry and of course how much I hate doing laundry because of my husband’s stinky Sushi Chef clothes!
I won’t get into how much I hate my current washer and dryer, and thankfully Whirlpool has hooked it up with some brand spanking new ones! But I actually enjoy the smell of my dryer going now. The Fabric Softener Sheets really have changed the way our laundry smells when it is done.
I’m sure everyone has that moment of relaxation when the clothes come out of the dryer smelling good? You breath in heavily and just say “ahhh”, that is how I feel every time I open up a clothes drawer or even my closet door.
Over the past few months I have been participating in the Arm & Hammer 2011 Switch & Save Program and have shared some of my best tips and tricks when it comes to doing laundry.
I also want to share with you some of Arm & Hammer’s best laundry tips right from their website.
- Delicate fabric, laces, lingerie, washable silk, etc. require gentle care and need to be washed separately.
- Lint-giving fabrics (chenille, terry, etc.) should not be washed with lint-attracting items, such as corduroy, permanent press, dark socks, etc.
- Heavily soiled work or play clothes should be washed separately from lightly soiled clothes.
- Treat stains early. Fresh stains are easier to remove than old ones. Always test an inside seam for colorfastness.
- Do not put garments with a stain in dryer. The dryer heat will set stains and make them permanent. Repeat pre-treatment/washing techniques above.
These tips and more can be found on the Arm & Hammer’s website. Be sure to check them out, not only can they help save some of your clothes, but your clothes can get a longer life out of them!
Don’t forget to head over to The Switch & Save Challenge to keep up with all of the bloggers and enter to win $25,000.

ONE winner will receive a $25.00 Visa Gift Card.

My little one loves to sort the clothes in piles.

they are asked to put their clothes, separated into whites and darks, into the separate bins daily. It’s always a huge struggle! But they are slowly getting the hang of it! usually something they want to do is withheld until their chore is done.

Something I do – Each kid has their own mesh bag for their socks.
So then we throw the bag in the washer and no lost socks!
Thank you.

Our daughter helps me put dirty laundry in the washing machine and then the washed clothes into the dryer.
Every Sunday the kids wash their own sheets. They kind of look forward to it because we do it as a family and then have a big breakfast.

I let the kids take care of my least favorite part of laundry – matching the socks. They actually enjoy it.
My kids are a little older and they are responsible for getting their laundy to laundry room and folding and putting away their own clothes. I started this when thehy were young and it has since become a habit for them.
I have the kids add the detergent to the washer and turn the machine on.
http://twitter.com/#!/carafferty/status/106094278375260161
I try to turn laundry time into a game that the kids can get involved with – for example, letting them separate the clothes in their own hamper by color and fabric, getting their help measuring out the liquid detergent and fabric softener, and having a race to find the matching socks when the clothes come out of the dryer. Thanks!

Let the kids separate into piles and then bounce in them.
When my son was six, he insisted he was big enough to do his own laundry. I told him that if I taught him how to do it, he’d have to do it himself from now on. He agreed, so I taught him…and watched him a few times to make sure he got it right. He did his own laundry from then on, and did a good job of it, too. Lucky me, right?

Young children love to “help.” I start around two or a little older getting the kids to help with folding. They can do things like wash cloths and kitchen towels. We put them away exactly as folded–can be a bit rumpled, but does wonders for building self-esteem and a spirit of cooperation. Older kids and teenagers are a different story altogether.

I taught my daughter to do her own laundry when she was about 10. She knows she’s responsible and has done a good job for a number of years now! And, we have an agreement, if either of us is doing a load that isn’t quite full, we’ll grab something from someone else to make it a full load.
they play the sorting game and help fold afterwards

My son did all the laundry this summer to get ready to do his own in college this year – didn’t want to ruin all those concert T-shirts he’s been collecting!
I taught my daughter how to do laundry and now she helps me with it. I think it’s important to start early and show kids how to do basic skills like laundry.
